About Symbolo Magico
I make jewelry and art since I was 18 years old.
Everybody is looking for connection and love and protection. I started making things as a child. I collected a lot of small things. This could be leaves, small pieces of written text and small lucky dolls. With this I made small "art-boxes" like matchboxes and kept them on my table in primary school like it would give me luck and protection. I did not know this at the time, but I know now that i really did protect myself by giving meaning to objects.
After highschool I went to the technical school for jewelry in Holland. After graduation i worked in a very good jewelry atelier BGLK. But I wanted more, so I went to the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam where I could fully express my creativity. There I was surrounded by people like me.
I discovered so much beauty in the lessons drawing, learning to look in another way, opening up my mind and traveling with my international classmates of the jewelry department. I tried to learn to focus on 1 subject, but I liked everything! It was here where I started to discover more about myself. After art school I discovered I really like teaching art to children and so I did an extra study on the Fontys Hogeschool to get my degree for teaching in art. I started teaching in high schools, this is what I still do apart from making jewelry.
I always loved creating detailed little worlds on a microscopic surface. This comes from my father who was a clock-maker and very technical. From a young age I was working with his tools, helping him repair tiny things. My dad also collected radios, and sometimes we would look inside to see all the wiring and how it worked.
Making jewelry for me is essential, I need to make something with my hands. What I make is more than just selling jewelry, it is done with love, attention and focus and in consideration of the person who its for. (I think about them while I work for them)
Each piece is extremely unique and individual. Each piece from the smallest pendant to the largest is given maximum attention to detail.
My intention for my art is to share light and love.
In the jewellery workshops that I give, I am able to give you personal attention and make the design you have in mind. I'll guide you through all options and work together with you to make your vision a reality.
No one sees the world in the same exact way, yet we all experience love and loss. My father died in 2009 I made a silver urn, one for my mother and I made earrings-urns with his ashes for myself. For a long time I did not tell anybody about it, but now its time to show my work.
